Quake: Game info
Quake is one of the earliest first-person shooter games that helped popularise eSports.
In 1997, Quake's Red Annihilation US tournament drew over 2,000 entrants. Dennis "Thresh" Fong won the competition and was awarded developer John Carmack's Ferrari.
Quake 3 Arena later launched, specifically designed for multiplayer combat, with Enemy Territory arriving in 2007 and Quake Live in 2010. The latter received some play in eSports tournament but its popularity has decreased in recent years.
A new Quake game is currently in development: Quake Champions.
Quake is developed by id, the makers of classic FPS game series Doom; Quake's multiplay is a team deathmatch shooter, where the winning player is whoever gets the most kills within a time limit.
