Pokémon: Game info
Pokémon is one of the most popular game franchises of all time, having sold more than 279 million games since the original Red and Blue titles arrived in 1996.
The series involves catching, training and battling virtual monsters, and the games have always focused on the community, whether trading and going head-to-head with other players.
The competitive side of the game sees players training their Pok émon to the nth degree, and considering advanced tactics and strategies in order to beat their opponents. Pok émon typically features a rock, paper, scissors type approach, with fire Pok émon beating grass Pok émon, grass beating water and water beating fire, for example.
The latest traditional Pok émon games in the series are Sun and Moon, while in 2015 Nintendo launched Pokken Tournament, a fighting game based on the franchise, which has received some competitive play.
There is also the physical Pok émon Trading Card Game which has its own competitive scene, and augmented reality mobile app game Pok émon Go, which cannot be played competitively (yet).
