The British Esports Association attended the Houses of Parliament yesterday as part of the Sport & Recreation Alliance Summer Networking Reception.

British Esports’ content director Dominic Sacco mingled with MPs and other sporting societies to talk about esports and the opportunities it offers.

The event took place during Volunteers’ Week and allowed guests to network with MPs, Members of the House of Lords and senior Civil Servants. Justin Tomlinson MP, and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Sport hosted the reception.

Other MPs in attendance included Tom Watson, Deputy Leader of the Labour Party and Shadow Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. He gave a talk about the importance of sport and paid tribute to all the volunteers working in sports and exercise.

We had a good chat with Tom after his speech about esports and British talent, including shoutcasters, and some of the exciting events taking place on home soil including the recent Dota 2 Major in Birmingham.

The Sport and Recreation Alliance – whom British Esports is a member – also used the event to promote their new volunteering resources website.

The news comes after esports executives visited No.10 as the Prime Minister addressed the UK creative industries last month.
