The DCMS Digital Strategy 2022 states that over 80% of all jobs advertised in the UK now require digital skills. Employers say the lack of available talent is the single biggest factor holding back growth.
Estimates suggest the digital skills gap costs the UK economy as much as £63 billion a year in potential GDP. The report stresses that ensuring the UK has a digitally skilled workforce is crucial to strengthen our position as a Science and Tech Superpower and vital to our longer-term economic prosperity.
“Digital inclusion is not about digital, it is about inclusion”, as cited in the Sunderland Digital Inclusion Plan.
Through this programme, British Esports will work with participants to develop a range of digital and life skills to support their development within the workplace whilst also responding to local skills needs as identified in the NELSIP.
The programme will enable local people to progress into new opportunities and gain skills to support career progression aligned to the key priorities in the Sunderland Digital Inclusion Plan. These skills include communication, leadership, organisation, self-confidence, time management, strategic thinking, data processing, analysis, speaking, listening, staying positive, aiming high, creativity and digital and technical skill development.
Participants in the programme will benefit from in-person sessions with British Esports staff at the home of British Esports, the National Esports Performance Campus, providing access to state-of-the-art technology (British Esports Partners with Dell and Intel) as well as unrivalled connectivity through our high specification network (British Esports Chooses Commscope’s RUCKUS Networks and preferred networking supplier).
Alongside the in-person events, all participants will have the opportunity to complete an online programme to gain a recognised British Esports certification in the brand new and first of its kind globally, ‘Duty to Care in Esports’ consisting of a range of modules written in collaboration with employers and global subject matter experts.
