The inaugural Commonwealth Esports Championships and Commonwealth Esports Forum will be staged in the UK this summer. The Commonwealth Esports Forum will take place on August 5th, 2022 while the Commonwealth Esports Championships will take place on August 6-7, 2022. Both events will be held at the International Convention Centre (ICC), in Birmingham.
England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland have all qualified for the Commonwealth Esports Championships Playoffs at Confetti X – the brand new purpose-built esports arena at Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies in Nottingham.
Competing against 28 other nations from across the 72 members of the Commonwealth, Esports England, Esports Northern Ireland, Esports Wales and Esports Scotland, will be representing the home nations in the following categories:
Rocket League, Dota 2 and eFootball PES.

Team Managers
Esports England’s Team Manager is Mark Weller, Chief Gaming Officer at Vexed Gaming and GB Team captain at the Global Esports Games in 2021.
Mark commented: “I’ve been a passionate supporter, endorser and developer of British esports talent throughout my career. I am honoured to have been selected as team manager for England, we have some fantastic talent in this country and I look forward to showcasing this on the world stage.”
Northern Ireland’s Team Manager is Michael Smyth, Lecturer in Esports, Computing and Software Engineering at Belfast Metropolitan College.
“I’m extremely proud to be managing the Northern Ireland Esports team in the first ever Commonwealth Esports Championships” said Michael Smyth, Esports Northern Ireland Team Manager. “What a legacy this will leave for future generations, and I hope the Home Nations can bring home the medals.”
Esports Wales Team Manager is John Jackson, current CEO of Esports Wales and proud advocate for gaming and Esports.
“It’s great to have 6 teams qualify for the Commonwealth Esports Championships and shows how hard the volunteers and staff have worked.” Said John Jackson, Team Manager. “The legacy from the Commonwealth will benefit the esports scene in Wales for years to come.”
Esports Scotland manager is James Hood, Chief Executive Officer at Esports Scotland.
James commented: “After founding Esports Scotland in 2017 I have been on a crusade to develop Esports in Scotland through education and competitive tournaments. International Esports events is the next logical progression for the sport and I was honoured when asked to be Team Scotland Manager.”

Esports Scotland’s team were identified through a Road To Gold Campaign, allowing Scottish gamers the opportunity to compete for the chance to represent Scotland at the Commonwealth Esports Championships. Players representing Scotland this year also compete in high tanking esports tournaments and represent the national team in other games as well as leading FA Premiership esports team Manchester Utd Esports.
