British Esports’ believe the esports industry, and those people involved in the ecosystem, have a responsibility and duty of care towards our players and participants.
Duty to Care in Esports is a FREE, certified, learning programme which prioritises positive coaching and engagement with players and teams by focusing on seven key pillars of knowledge and understanding.
Safeguarding Every Esports Journey.
Developed in collaboration with leading subject matter experts such as the NSPCC and UNICEF UK, this course gives individuals a comprehensive understanding of seven key pillars which are critical in building and maintaining a safe, healthy, inclusive and supportive esports ecosystem.
Safeguarding: Understanding your responsibilities in protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults from abuse and harm.
Child Rights: Learn about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and how Child Rights principles can be applied in esports.
Online Safety: Understand the risks players face through the internet and how you can support them to have safe, positive experiences online.
Cyber Choices: Explore the difference between legal and illegal cyber activity. Learn how to support individuals to make informed choices about their use of technology.
Equality, Diversity & Inclusion: Develop awareness of EDI to foster an inclusive esports environment.
Mental Health: Learn about the importance of positive mental health and how to effectively support the individuals and teams you work with.
Health & Wellbeing: Explore core pillars of health such as nutrition and sleep and their link to performance of esports athletes.

Duty to Care in Esports is designed for coaches, programme leaders, teachers, parents and any individual or organisation working within the esports ecosystem.
It supports the moral and ethical responsibilities of ALL individuals and organisations involved in esports.

Pathway to Further Learning.
Upon successful completion of Duty to Care in Esports you will receive a digital certificate from British Esports.
To progress onto other British Esports learning programmes, such as Introduction to Esports Coaching, you must fully complete Duty to Care in Esports first.
Establishing Guidelines and Expectations.
The British Esports Code of Conduct applies to Coaches, Programme Leaders and Responsible Adults, emphasising their role in fostering positive esports experiences and personal development.
It outlines clear expectations for honesty, integrity and competence, ensuring participants have a safe, supportive and enjoyable environment while striving for both fun and success in competitive gaming.
A Structured Approach to Coaching Development.
The Coach Development Framework provides a clear set of standards and best practices for coaching in esports.
It draws on expertise from both traditional sports coaching and esports and identifies the core knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for effective safeguarding and coaching in esports.

Duty to Care in Esports from British Esports is available for FREE from British Esports Learning, a new learning platform from the British Esports Federation.
Designed to equip participants with actionable knowledge and practical skills to foster safe, inclusive and supportive environments for young people in esports, Duty to Care in Esports offers a comprehensive foundation in essential areas of safeguarding, online safety, health and well-being, equality and inclusion, mental health, and child rights.

1st4sport are an awarding organisation recognised and regulated in England by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual).

UK Coaching promotes high coaching standards and helps ensure coaches positively impact their participants’ mental and physical well-being.
UK Coaching’s work includes coach education, mentoring, and upholding safeguarding and inclusion standards to create safe, supportive environments for athletes at all levels.

Registered users to British Esports Learning who complete Duty to Care in Esports or the Introduction to Esports Coaching Learning Programme will receive, by email, a digital certificate upon successful completion of a course.
Learners who successfully complete Duty to Care in Esports will receive a certification of completion from British Esports.
Learners who successfully complete Introduction to Esports Coaching will receive a certificate from UK Coaching | 1st4sport and British Esports.
Registered users to British Esports Learning who complete Duty to Care in Esports or the Introduction to Esports Coaching Learning Programme will receive their certificates of completion within 72 hours of completing the course.
British Esports works with UK Coaching and 1st4sport to facilitate the delivery of certification.
Duty to Care in Esports is a pre-requisite for individuals and all aspiring esports coaches looking to complete the Introduction to Esports Coaching Learning Programme.
Only individuals registered through British Esports Learning who have completed Duty to Care in Esports will be eligible to enroll for the Introduction to Esports Coaching Learning Programme.
Duty to Care in Esports is FREE and available from British Esports Learning, a new learning platform from the British Esports Federation.
The Coach Development Pathway (CDP) is built on the foundation of the Coach Development Framework.
The initial stages of the Coach Development Pathway have been developed by the British Esports Federation and will support the global community of aspiring and existing esports coaches through two, certified online learning opportunities:
Duty to Care in Esports: a FREE online learning programme focused on developing essential knowledge to build safer, healthier, more inclusive esports environments. Based around 7 key pillars, it has units written by globally recognised Subject Matter Experts including UNICEF UK and the NSPCC.
Introduction to Esports Coaching: an esports coaching programme designed to provide esports coaches, both new and experienced, with an understanding of effective coaching principles and practices.
UK Coaching | 1st4sport, the UK’s leading body for coaching standards and professional development across traditional sport and their National Governing Bodies, have endorsed the Introduction to Esports Coaching learning programme.
The Code of Conduct outlines the expectations and standards for Esports Coaches, Programme Leaders and Responsible Adults who work with players and teams or are involved in esports.
Individuals involved in coaching and facilitating esports play a vital role in the development of the ecosystem and the individuals and teams they support. They must demonstrate honesty, integrity, competence, knowledge and skill and promote esports for fun and enjoyment as well as performance and achievement.
The Code of Conduct outlines the behaviours and personal and professional standards these individuals are expected to uphold and maintain. Key areas covered include:
Rights & Responsibilities: Respecting the dignity, rights, and welfare of all participants, regardless of background, and fostering positive relationships.
Personal & Professional Standards: Acting as role models, adhering to esports rules, and maintaining professionalism, including abstaining from inappropriate behaviors.
Commitment to Development: Continuously improving their skills and knowledge to provide high-quality coaching.
This code helps ensure that esports coaches and leaders create a respectful, supportive environment for all participants.
