The British Esports Championships for students aged 12+ have kicked off for the 2020/21 season, with students representing schools and colleges across the UK.

Week 1 matches took place in League of Legends, Overwatch and Rocket League last week, with our live broadcast at twitch.tv/britishesports kicking off with Rocket League. These are the winter qualifiers – essentially one big group stage where teams try to acquire as many points as possible.

Teams will then be split into divisions in spring season depending on their position in the leaderboard from the winter qualifiers.

Our stream featured a tense match between Barnsley Sports Academy and Queen Mary’s College, with Barnsley beating Queen Mary’s 3-0 in what was a hard-fought victory.

The match was hosted by Vlad Catusanu, with casters including Craig Griffiths and TofuElliot, and SolCasts producing, so a huge thank you to our volunteer team.

The match had 1,047 average viewers, with more than 16,000 unique viewers overall.

Next week we’ll be streaming some League of Legends matches, and the following will feature Overwatch.
