Pakistan’s first national esports policy approved ahead of Commonwealth meeting – here’s how British Esports is getting involved

Pakistan’s first ever esports policy has been approved by the country’s Federal Cabinet, with the help of the British Esports Federation.

The policy aims to oversee the regulation and growth of the country’s esports ecosystem by launching esports training programmes, academies and digital gaming arenas.

The Pakistan Esports Federation will also be established within the next two months.

The news comes after British Esports and the Commonwealth Secretariat signed a Memorandum of Understanding in summer 2025 with the Pakistan Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) to develop the country’s first esports policy.

It also comes ahead of the 12th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting, due to take place on July 22nd 2026 in Glasgow, where British Esports will be present.

Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, said: “With an estimated 50 to 60 million young people engaged in esports across Pakistan, dedicated esports arenas and game development centers will be established nationwide to nurture talent and promote the digital gaming industry.”

“Global champions such as Arslan Ash are a testament to Pakistan’s immense potential in this field. Through strategic initiatives, the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme is committed to empowering young gamers and providing them with opportunities to compete and excel on the global stage.”

This is the latest global development British Esports has been involved with. We work with several stakeholders across the globe, such as the Global Esports Federation, other national esports federations, events, esports teams and more. 

In 2022, we helped see the Commonwealth Esports Championships take place in Birmingham.

We helped College of Esports and Oldham College students secure a trip to South Korea in conjunction with major esports team organisation Gen.G. 

In late 2025, Exeter College students represented UK schools and colleges on an esports cultural exchange event supported by the British Council and British Embassy in Doha, Qatar, as part of the 10th UK-Qatar Creative Industries Forum.

And, most recently, British Esports and other entities united to represent Great Britain at the Esports Nations Cup 2026. So far, Great Britain will be competing in 11 titles at the main event later this year.
