August 21st, London: The British Esports Association has appointed esports event organiser epic.LAN to handle the tournament platform for the inaugural British Esports Championships.

The Championships – exclusively for students aged 12-19 at secondary schools, alternative provision schools and further education colleges – begin on October 10th. It includes League of Legends, Overwatch and Rocket League.

epic.LAN will provide a dedicated instance of its in-house tournament platform for use throughout the British Esports Championships, including a number of custom developments.

In addition, the epic.LAN team will be offering a fully managed service providing league operations support to the Championships.

The team will run the practical elements of the tournament, allowing British Esports staff to focus their time on relationships with the teams instead of systems.

Earlier this year, British Esports appointed Natacha Jones as student esports coordinator. Natacha has been working hard on arranging various aspects of the Championships, and a detailed handbook including rules will be published soon.

British Esports Association chair Andy Payne OBE said: “It’s great to be partnering with a company with the pedigree of epic.LAN, who are very well-regarded and experienced in UK esports. We know we can rely on them to produce a brilliant tournament platform and look forward to seeing the British Esports Championships in action.”

Jon Winkle, epic.LAN managing director, commented: “We’re very excited to be involved in this stage of the British Esports Championships both as a software provider and hands-on partner delivering league operations support.

“Our platform has been written with our 15 years of tournament delivery experience in mind, it’s designed to make the lives of esports staff as easy as possible so that they can focus on the people elements of delivering a tournament, rather than data entry.

“Because of the way our system is designed and deployed, we’re able to offer a completely separate white-label version of our system for the Championships, with key modifications made to satisfy safeguarding and GDPR requirements, which are especially important with young people involved in this project.”

epic.LAN runs several events each year, from white label activities to its own-brand gatherings and esports tournaments.

As well as epic.LAN, the British Esports Association has partnered with Twitch Student and AoC Sport (part of the Association of Colleges) for the inaugural Championships.

The British Esports Championships will include two seasons, and the live finals are set to take place at the Insomnia gaming festival in Easter 2019 at the Birmingham NEC.

Team sign-ups for the Championships open in the first week of September. Visit the dedicated British Esports Championships sign-up website to register. In the meantime, you can read more on the British Esports Association’s Championships hub.
