Which teams haven’t dropped a single map in the British Esports Championships? (Feb 2020 week 3 recap)

Our school and college liaison officer Elliot Bond looks back on the British Esports Championships matches for the week running from February 19th to 25th 2020, and ahead to the games on Wednesday February 26th!

 

Rocket League

It was another tense week full of deciding matches. In Group A, Queen Mary’s College 2 are in the lead with 9 points, however they play against 2nd place Farnborough Falcons this week, who are looking to grab the victory and tie first place. If they do secure victory, they will need a +3 goal difference to steal the lead from Queen Mary’s College 2.

Group B’s DON’T PANIC (Northgate High) have won all their matches with a goal difference of +10 meaning they take 1st place already and go through to the playoffs.

Then we have the closest group in the tournament – Group D. Easthampstead Park Community 1 and Hunters (Sunderland College) are both on 9 points with goal difference of +9! They face off against each other on Wednesday to determine first place.

AGSB (Altringham Grammar School for Boys) look set to take first place in Group E with 9 points. However tied for 2nd is Basilisk (Callywith College) and Fisher Falcons (St John Fisher Academy), who face each other to try and tie first place. Team AGSB would have to lose to Coleg Gwent first though…

It looks competitive across the other groups, with Sunderland Seers topping Group H with 9 points. However a two way tie for second between Carmel RocketLeague (Carmel College) and CCP Panthers (City College Plymouth) could change it up. It’s all to play for…

 

League of Legends

We’re all set for a very tense final week of group stages this Wednesday (February 26th), with many groups on the line for close decider matches.

Farnborough Peregrines have been unstoppable – they haven’t dropped a match this season so they are confirmed top of their group (A).

Group B has quite a close race with South Devon Collegiate in the lead, however they play a close 2nd Heckmondwike Hotshots this week which could tie for 1st place if Heckmondwike win. Hills Road could also tie 1st in this scenario if they beat Northampton College. Then in Group C, CONEL (The College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London) are in the lead with a decider match vs Farnborough Cryptics taking place on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, with 9 points each and both teams undefeated, FCOT (Farnborough College of Technology) and Art of the Int (Lincoln College face off in a final group D match to determine first place. Then, Wyke 6th form college and Hills Road currently lead groups F and G respectively. In Group H, it’s all to fight for, with 3 teams currently tied on 6 points. Alsager School, Ackworth School and the Thomas Hardye School could all take top spot depending on the games on Wednesday.

 

Overwatch

Unlike the other game tournaments, there are still several weeks to play in Overwatch before we know who goes through.

Nescot Nemesis are looking strong, having won all four of their games and only dropped one map score so far in group A. Coventry Crosshairs are also unbeaten without dropping a single map in group D, as are Gower College Swansea in group E and Wyke – Whiteboard Warriors in group F. It’s the same case for Arthur Terry School and Sunderland Seers in group H!

TTS Esports Red (Thomas Telford School) are tied at the top of group B with Farnborough Merlins, while Nescot Phoenix and Farnborough Kestrels are tied for tied at the top in group C, with all four teams having 9 points.

Group G is a super-close group with Farnborough Peregrines in 1st place with 9 points. However there is a 4-WAY TIE for 2nd place between The Ferrers Esports, Carmel College OW, Penwith College and Barnsley College. It’s all to play for in the next couple of weeks.
