The national body for esports in the UK has this month appointed (pictured, left to right) Stephen Gallagher as Commercial Vice President, Ashleigh Mattinson as Business Development Manager, Louis Skilton as Graduate Intern and Meredith Brady as Operations Executive. The growth in headcount is part of a renewed strategy to increase the number of activities and opportunities offered by British Esports to guests and sponsors, particularly within its National Esports Performance Campus (NEPC) in Sunderland. This world-class facility features three Grade II listed gaming houses, with 17 bedrooms and space for up to 27 guests, open plan living spaces, kitchen and dining, gaming and performance rooms, easy in/out offices and conference rooms, streaming, photography and podcast studios and event spaces, making it the perfect destination for parties, private hire, business meetings and gaming getaway weekends. To top it off, a 15,000 sq ft national Gaming and Esports Arena is opening in 2026, providing a 200-seat theatre for tournaments, feature events and audience experiences, as well as an outdoor activation space. Timing is ideal as Sunderland experiences significant investment and major infrastructure improvements, such the Keel Crossing and Sheepfolds providing a vibrant hub. The developments coincide perfectly with Sunderland AFC flying high in the Premier League and excitement building around the Stadium of Light, ahead of a busy summer concert season set to headline Take That. With the 2026 World Cup also around the corner, the NEPC provides a perfect space for fans to gather and enjoy related side activities or a gaming break. The venue also recently hosted a watch party for the League of Legends World Championship grand final on November 9th. New British Esports Commercial Vice President Stephen Gallagher has vast experience in marketing, having held several senior roles at various companies, including marketing director for Mo-Sys Engineering, one of the world’s leading virtual production technology manufacturers. “I’m delighted to join the British Esports Federation as Commercial Vice President,” Stephen said. I can’t wait to get started, working with a talented team to help drive the continued growth and success of British Esports, championing the incredible potential of this industry and the people within it.” Ashleigh Mattinson, British Esports Business Development Manager, has extensive connections and presence across the North East, and has previously worked as a Business Development Manager within the renewables industry, where she contributed to market growth, built partnerships, and supported commercial strategy and sustainability alignment. Ashleigh commented: “This is an incredible opportunity to contribute to the growth of the UK’s esports ecosystem, helping to create partnerships, develop new initiatives, and support the next generation of talent in one of the fastest-growing industries in the world. It is great to join a growing organisation and to have hit the ground running. We’re already seeing lots of interest in our beautiful Grade II listed rentals, commercial office spaces and conference facilities here in the heart of Sunderland.” British Esports President Chester King added: “We’re delighted to welcome Stephen, Ashleigh, Louis and Meredith to the British Esports team at an important moment in our growth, as we prepare for our next phase of operations and arena launch next year. Each new team member brings invaluable experience in their fields, which will help us expand the range of events, programmes and opportunities we offer at our National Esports Performance Campus. “We are looking to further bolster the team, with additional jobs set to be announced over the coming months.” British Esports Operations Executive Meredith Brady will work alongside Head of Operations Alice Whorley, as will Graduate Intern Louis Skilton, helping to work on the British Esports Student Champs and more. The news also comes following the appointment of Joel Lavery as VP of Strategic Partnerships and Major Events in September.
