Sunderland, UK, Monday 5th September, 2022 – British Esports has announced its Women in Esports initiative has been recognised by the Women in Games Global Awards, for its continuing work in creating a welcoming community in esports for women and marginalised genders. First established in 2019 the Women in Esports initiative is designed to focus on promoting more inclusivity and diversity within the esports industry. Since its inception, the Women in Esports initiative has delivered various projects and activations, including; A partnership with the Dota Valkyries, to increase female participation in Dota 2.Hosting a Valorant Showmatch at Insomnia 69.Running and maintaining a growing Women in Esports Discord community.Maintaining an advisory committee with members from various sectors of the industry. Most recently, the Women in Esports team were also on hand to support the women’s teams and players at the hugely successful Commonwealth Esports Championships at the ICC, Birmingham, with all women’s teams securing medals in their respective games. “I am ecstatic that Women in Esports has been nominated for the ‘Most Inclusive Initiative’ award, globally in esports.” said Billie Purdie, Women in Esports Manager, British Esports. “Diversity and inclusion is at the forefront of everything we do, so to have recognition for our efforts feels very rewarding.
