Sunderland, UK, 27th September, 2022 – British Esports, the national body set up to support grassroots esports in the UK, is pleased to announce as part of its award winning Women in Esports initiative, the launch of the Lioness Cup, an on-going series of free to enter competitive esports tournaments designed exclusively for women and marginalised genders. Following the huge success of the Women in Esports VALORANT showmatch at Insomnia 69, the inaugural Women in Esports Lioness Cup is open to players aged 16+, and will feature 32 teams of 5 (+2 subs) from across the EMEA region, where players will compete in the fast-paced first-person-shooter VALORANT, to be crowned the inaugural Lioness Cup Champions. Offering a prize pool of £500, games will take place on the 8th and 9th October 2022 and will be live streamed on the Women in Esports Twitch channel. As part of Women in Esports ongoing commitment to deliver more esports tournaments that cultivate an inclusive and productive space for women and marginalised genders, the Lioness Cup will help provide those competing with the opportunity to be recognised for their talents and potential minus the traditional levels of toxicity and discriminatory abuse found in amatuer gender split esports competitions. Closing date for applications to the Lioness Cup are 5th October 2022. To register a team or simply gather more information, head on over to the Women in Esports Discord server.
