Vocational qualifications in Esports.

Learners completing their BTEC Level 2 in Esports will be aiming to go on to further study, employment or onto an apprenticeship.

These qualifications are developed in close collaboration with experts from professional bodies and businesses and with the providers who will be delivering the qualifications.

The BTEC Level 2 Award in Esports from Pearson and British Esports is 120 GLH and is designed for learners working at this level.

It is aimed at students who are taking a study programme which includes a number of different subjects.

Including a BTEC in esports as an engaging and stimulating qualification which will prepare students for successful performance in working life and progression into employment or further study, by developing a range of essential skills, techniques and attitudes.

The BTEC Level 2 Award in Esports is aimed at learners who are looking to progress into further education.

It offers learners the opportunity to study esports alongside a broad range of L2 qualifications, such as English, Mathematics, Media, IT, Sports, Business or Enterprise.

The BTEC Level 2 Award in Esports is fully endorsed by the British Esports Federation as being suitable for learners as an introduction to esports.


The BTEC Level 2 Award in Esports has been developed in consultation with key stakeholders. This ensures that the content is appropriate and consistent with current industry practice to enable learners to enter further study.

Learners taking this qualification will study 2 mandatory units:

  • Unit 1: Esports Games, Teams and Tournaments
  • Unit 2: Establishing an Esports Organisation

The mandatory content allows learners to develop their technical skills across range of assessments within the units, supported by underpinning knowledge.

All assessments relate to the esports industry.

The BTEC Level 2 Award in Esports has a primary focus on progressing into further education when taken with other qualifications at L2.

Learners taking this qualification may want to progress into further study such as the BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Esports, Information Technology, Creative Media, Sport, Enterprise and Entrepreneurship or Business.

If the BTEC Level 2 Award in Esports is studied alongside a Level 2 qualification in English and/or Mathematics, it will provide numerous opportunities to develop further relevant skills and knowledge.
