What happened in the All Star Showdown qualifiers? Elliot Bond, takes us through the event hosted on Sunday May 17th.

Between May 25th and 29th, the British Esports Association is hosting the All-Star Showdown tournament on Rocket League. The main event will host eight teams, four that get promoted through the qualifier event and previous season champions.

The teams automatically qualified include last year’s champions, ‘SRCulater’ (South Regional College) and ‘Fortes Esports’ (Carmel College), along with this year’s winter and spring champions, ‘Clyde Hotshots’ (Glasgow Clyde College) and ‘Sunderland Seers’ (Sunderland College) respectively.

For the remaining 4 places, we held a qualifier round on Sunday May 17th. In the upper bracket, ‘DON’T PANiC!’ (Northgate High School and Sixth Form) swiftly beat ‘Felsted Esports’ (Felsted School) and ‘AGSB Esports’ (Altrincham Grammar School for Boys), 3-0 and 3-1 respectively, securing their place in the main event. The other team to go through in the upper bracket was ‘The Ferrers Esports’ (The Ferrers School), who defeated ‘Matador Gaming’ (Marling School) 3-2 and then ‘Basilisk’ (Callywith College) 3-2 to secure their place.

In the lower bracket, ‘Crosskeys Kings’ (Coleg Gwent) managed to progress 3-2 over ‘Felsted Esports’ (Felsted School), and also had a clean 3-0 sweep versus team Basilisk. In the other half, ‘Matador Gaming’ (Marling School) soundly defeated ‘EP Esports’ (Easthampstead Park School) 3-0 and barely scraped victory over AGSB as they took a clutch game 5 victory, coming from 2 goals behind in the last minute to take the overall series 3-2.

Commiserations to the teams who have been eliminated: Felsted Esports, Basilisk, EP Esports, and AGSB Esports. All competitors played well, and some new rivalries have definitely been established!
