Sunderland, UK, Thursday 5th June 2025 – British Esports, the UK’s national body for esports, is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated finalists of the UK’s leading grassroots esports tournament for schools and colleges, the British Esports Student Champs. In just under four weeks, eight of the UK’s very best student esports teams will converge on British Esports’ state-of-the-art National Esports Performance Campus for the thrilling culmination of the 2024/25 Student Champs season. After a year of intense competition, dedication and exceptional skill, the nation’s brightest young esports stars are poised to battle for glory across some of the biggest esports titles, including Overwatch 2, League of Legends, VALORANT and Rocket League. The tremendous growth and levels of engagement of the student esports scene have once again been demonstrated, engaging close to 750 teams, featuring more than 3,000 competing students, and witnessing a staggering 13,000 games. With over 65% of Further Education (FE) colleges actively competing in weekly fixtures, the Student Champs continues to be a cornerstone of educational esports development in the UK. “We are incredibly proud of every student and team participating in this year’s Student Champs,” said Chester King, President, British Esports. “The growth in participation, level of competition, and dedication shown by these young athletes exemplify the power of esports in developing crucial life skills. The finals are not just about crowning champions; they are a celebration of talent, teamwork and the thriving grassroots esports ecosystem we continue to champion here in the UK.” As the leading grassroots esports competition for students aged 12+, the British Esports’ Student Champs provides a safe, inclusive and competitive environment. It actively promotes teamwork, communication, strategic thinking and digital literacy. The competition also serves as a vital practical experience, complementing students’ studies in the range of BTEC qualifications in Esports and the new Esports Leadership Programme, studied by over 15,000 students across more than 200 institutions globally. Providing invaluable real-world experience, students from College of Esports have managed the production of the Champs throughout the year and will take on key production and talent roles in the finals, applying their skills in a high-stakes, professional broadcast environment. Adding to the excitement, the regional finalists will also gain exclusive access to the cutting-edge performance bootcamp facilities at the NEPC in the days leading up to the Grand Finals. This unique opportunity will allow teams to fine-tune their strategies, practice in a professional environment, and bond as they prepare for their ultimate showdown. The stage is now set for an epic clash as the champions from the North and South prepare to face off for national honours.
