British Esports to coach a school in the Digital Schoolhouse Overwatch 3v3 tournament

A UK school esports tournament is returning for a second year.

Digital Schoolhouse, delivered by games industry trade body Ukie, has announced that Blizzard Entertainment will be providing its team-based shooter Overwatch as the main title for the tournament, which will focus on 3v3 matches rather than the traditional 6v6.taking part

More than 20 schools will be taking part in the careers event, which uses play-based learning to engage the next generation of pupils and teachers with the new Computing curriculum.

Pupils will be playing Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch as they compete for the trophy,while interacting with games industry experts to learn more about the wealth of careers available in the sector.

The British Esports Association, in particular, is on board as a coach. The Association’s content director Dominic Sacco will be coaching Gildredge House school.

Other partners include PlayStation, SEGA, plus support throughout from industry experts hailing from Belong by Game, ESL and others.

The Digital Schoolhouse Esports Tournament has launched with school-based regional heats, running until March 1st 2018, before the regional qualifiers from March 6th to 31st.

The grand final event will coincide with the London Games Festival in April 2018, supported by Games London. Bringing together education and industry, it’s set to inspire up to 2.000 students to engage with computing and the UK games industry.
