UK games industry trade body Ukie, in partnership with Intel and the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Video Games, is hosting an esports parliamentary event on Monday October 29th in the Palace of Westminster.

The event will showcase the scale of the esports sector. It aims to demonstrate the potential esports has to transform towns and cities, as well as engage young people with digital skills and inspire them to consider careers in the digital and creative sectors.

There will be a variety of people in esports, brands, teachers and businesses talking about the world of esports and engaging with politicians about the challenges and opportunities in this sector. Senior MPs, ministers, civil servants and other policy makers are expected to attend, with some due to speak at the gathering.

A statement on the event page said: “Esports offer huge opportunities across the UK in job creation, local economic growth, tourism, new skills development, and in giving a clear signal to the world about our ambitions around technology, innovation and creativity.”

The British Esports Association will have a stand at the event and hopes to inform MPs about our Championships in schools and colleges, and the benefits of esports. Other brands with stands at the event include ESL, Intel, NUEL, National Student Esports, Edge Esports, Esports Insider and Belong.

Ukie CEO Dr Jo Twist OBE said: “We are delighted to be hosting the very first esports event at Parliament, in partnership with the All Party Parliamentary Group for Video Games and Intel.

“Esports is one of fastest growing sectors in the world and the event gives us a great chance to help policy makers and politicians to understand more about the scale of the sector and the opportunities it presents to the UK in areas such as job creation, local economic growth, tourism, new skills development and careers.”

The event is invite only and space has been filled.

Earlier this year the British Esports Association attended a similar APPG hosted by the Sport & Recreation Alliance which focused on the sports industry.

Keep an eye out for more information on the esports APPG from Ukie soon.
