British Esports CEO speaks at DCMS Select Committee about the positives of esports

British Esports Association founder and CEO Chester King attended a hearing at the Palace of Westminster yesterday (June 26th) to give evidence in public on ‘immersive and addictive technologies’.

Chester spoke at the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Select Committee alongside Ukie CEO Dr Jo Twist OBE, Video Standards Council director general Ian Rice and TIGA chief executive Dr Richard Wilson OBE.

British Esports has already submitted written evidence on esports to DCMS, which announced its inquiry into addictive technologies late last year.

Chester spoke about the British Esports Championships for schools and colleges, liaising with students and teachers, the benefits of esports, the topic of diversity and fostering future British esports talent.

A transcript of the meeting will be published next week.

The meeting followed a similar session earlier this month that included the likes of publishers Epic Games and EA, the latter of which was hounded by the games community for its use of the term ‘surprise mechanics’ to describe in-game loot boxes, which can allow players to pay real life money for additional/mystery items in video games.
