What a week for UK Overwatch!

It’s been an eventful and exciting week for Overwatch in the UK to say the least.

The British Esports Association provides a quick recap of the key goings on.

Team UK head to Blizzcon

On the weekend, Team UK qualified for the Overwatch World Cup Playoffs, which take place at Blizzard’s annual game convention Blizzcon later this year.

Out of 32 countries taking part, UK are now in the final eight, and will take part in the quarter finals along with China, South Korea, Canada, USA, Sweden, France and Australia from November 3rd to 4th.

But it’s not just the fact they’ve qualified. It’s the manner in which the UK played. They absolutely smashed their opposition, including Belgium, Israel, Germany and Taipei. They went undefeated, and have a collective scoreline of 15-0 overall.

This team have real togetherness, ability and confidence, which is honestly unusual for a UK esports side.

The team consists of ChrisTFer, Smex, Kruise, MikeyA, Realzx and Boombox, with committee members including Stylosa, Hayes and numlocked.

The British Esports Association is excited by the team’s progress. We wish them luck and can’t wait to see how they get on this November!

London on Cloud9 after Overwatch League deal

Last week, Blizzard announced that well-known esports organisation Cloud9 had purchased the London slot for the upcoming Overwatch League franchise. They have also brought on board the Laser Kittenz Overwatch roster.

Also, Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke and his son Josh have bought a Los Angeles spot in the league.

The Overwatch League is an esports league with city-based teams in Boston, London, Los Angeles, Miami-Orlando, New York, San Francisco, Seoul, and Shanghai. It’s set to begin later this year, with an official player signing window for Season 1 now open until the end of October. Players will earn a minimum of $50,000 each year.
