Established in 2019 in response to the growing levels of toxicity and online abuse aimed at females and marginalised genders, alongside the need for further inclusivity in esports, the Women in Esports initiative has delivered numerous events, dedicated tournaments, community initiatives and educational content throughout the past 3 years, as it continues to help grow wider representation in the esports scene. In the ongoing effort to create safer spaces for women and marginalised genders, the Women in Esports initiative recently announced the Lioness Cup, a competitive esports tournament open to players aged 16+, and set to feature 32 teams of 5 (+2 subs) from across the EMEA region, competing in the tactical shooter VALORANT. For more information on the Lioness Cup, check out the Women in Esports Discord server. Women in Esports were also recently recognised for their efforts in prioritising diversity and inclusivity by GameHERs, having been nominated in the ‘Aspiring Ally Organisation‘, with Bryony-Hope Green, British Esports Content Manager, also picking up 3 separate nominations including; Journalist of the Year, Cosplayer of the Year and Generation Esports Top Educator.
