STUDENT CHAMPS
FAQs:

Are you involved in the Student Champs, and have some burning questions about the tournament?

Below are some of the most commonly asked questions, and the answers you may have been looking for!

1. general questions

How do I reschedule a match?
Please remember that rescheduled times must be mutually agreed upon by both teams. Head to the “My Fixtures” section of the Champs website and select “Details” on the match you would like to reschedule. Click the “reschedule match” option and suggest a new time and include a message if needed. You can reschedule up to 7 days before, or 21 days after the original match date. If the reschedule match option does not appear, please submit a support ticket or contact an admin via Discord to request a reschedule – ensure you have evidence that the reschedule has been mutually agreed. Reschedule requests should be made well in advance of the original match date.
Where can I find the general and game-specific full rulesets?
You can find the general rules here. The code of conduct as well as game-specific rulesets are also accessible from that page.
How can I reach out to an admin?
On the website, you can submit a support ticket which will be reviewed by the admin team. On Discord, navigate to find-a-contact to see the list of admins – you can either left-click and start typing your message immediately, right-click and select message, or you can ping them publicly on the Champs server by typing @ followed by their username#0000.
I am having IT issues, where can I get help?
In the first instance, please refer to the Champs handbook, which covers many common school/college IT issues. For any further problems, please email [email protected]. You can also ask around in general channels in this Discord server to see what similar schools/colleges have done.
Where can I find the handbook?
The Champs handbook is available to view online on the support page. Scroll down to the Resources section of the page and select the handbook image.
Can my team play from home? What is the ruling on it?
Playing from a supervised classroom is still our primary requirement and default position, however we are allowing students to participate from home if participating from the classroom is not possible. We still require all students to be organised and supervised by a staff member, even if remotely. Matches must still be organised and played within the 4-6pm window.
I’m having another issue not listed here, who should I message?
Refer to find-a-contact to see which staff members and admins could answer your enquiries. For all other questions not covered, please either submit a support ticket or send an email to [email protected].

2. MATCHDAY QUESTIONS:

How do I message an opponent?
On Discord, you can use the find-a-contact channel in the Discord server to find the username of the person you are looking for. You can either send them a direct message request, or ping them publicly on the Champs server by typing @ followed by their username#0000. On the Champs website, first make sure you are logged in. You can then start a new message here, or you can also go directly to the opponent’s team page and select the option “Message Team” next to their team name.
I need an emergency sub, what should I do?
An emergency sub is one that is requested on the day of the match, all requests MUST be made at least 1 hour before the agreed match start time. Players can freely move around teams between weeks without need for approval. If you require an emergency sub, contact an admin via Discord or submit a support ticket with the details of the emergency sub’s gamertag as well as the player they are substituting for. An admin MUST approve of the emergency sub request before they are allowed to participate.
The opposing team did not show up or were late to the match, what do I do?
Please contact an admin or submit a support ticket. Generally, if the opposing team does not show up within 30 minutes of the agreed match start time, your team is not expected to wait any longer to play out the match. We encourage teams to try their best to reschedule any games that could not be played, to enable students to enjoy the games as much as possible, but in the event where a reschedule is not possible you can submit a support ticket to claim a default win. Please make sure to keep supporting evidence of your full team being in lobby by the agreed match start time, such as a screenshot.
Can a player already playing on one team sub for another?
Players must only participate in one game, per game title, per round/week (not counting reschedules). Players may play for another team within the same game title if they did not play for their original team that week/round. If your player is requested to substitute on the day of the match, make sure you contact an admin as this will count as an emergency sub request.
We asked for a reschedule but haven’t heard from the opponents at all?
Please get in contact with an admin or submit a ticket for more help. Ensure you have kept supporting evidence of your conversation or requests made to the opponent. If a reschedule cannot be agreed upon, the original match time stands (Wednesday 4PM). Reschedule requests should be made well in advance of the original match date.
We can’t reach an agreement with the opposing team for a reschedule, what should we do?
Please get in contact with an admin or submit a ticket for more help. Ensure you have kept supporting evidence of your conversation or requests made to the opponent. If a reschedule cannot be agreed upon, the original match time stands (Wednesday 4PM or 5PM for Valorant). Reschedule requests should be made well in advance of the original match date.
I’ve put in the wrong scores on the website, what should I do?
Please submit a support ticket on the website. Ensure you have supporting evidence to show the correct scores, such as a screenshot or confirmation from the opponent. Evidence can be uploaded directly to the match page.
Can we stream the match?
Permission from both teams must be granted for a stream to be allowed. Please check the full rulesets to see our rules on how streams can operate – for example, a stream delay of at least 120 seconds must be enabled.
Can we have spectators in the match?
Permission from both teams must be granted for spectators. Please check the full rulesets for different types of spectators, such as coaches, or stream observers. Admins or BE staff may request to spectate your game – these requests cannot be refused.
My team is playing against BYE, what does that mean?
A ‘BYE’ means that your team does not have a match to play. It is counted as an automatic win, and this usually happens if there is an odd number of teams in a group. You do not need to enter any scores for a BYE as admins will sort them out.
Which team is the ‘home’ team?
Typically, the home team is the team shown on the left side of the match details on the website. The home team should be responsible for organising the game lobby.
