Women in Esports has been nominated in the Sports Business Awards 2023 ‘Women’s Sport Business Award – Governing Bodies & Teams’ category. British Esports are one of six nominated entities in the category, alongside Arsenal Football Club, the Sport and Recreation Alliance, the Professional Darts Corporation, the Football Association of Ireland and The Walking Football Association. The Sports Business Awards 2023 will take place on November 10th at The Hurlingham Club in London. Billie Purdie, Project Development Lead at British Esports, who also works on the Women in Esports initiative, said “It is truly a rewarding feeling to be considered for the Women’s Sport Business Awards in the Governing Bodies & Teams category alongside other admirable organisations. This nomination is yet another testament to the dedication and passion that drive the Women in Esports team in our efforts and commitment to bring positive change to the ever-growing esports industry.” Women in Esports was established in 2019 in response to the growing levels of toxicity and online abuse aimed at females and marginalised genders. It delivers events, runs tournaments and produces educational content to help grow wider representation within esports. Last year, Women in Esports was awarded the Most Inclusive Esports Initiative at the Women in Games Global Awards 2022. Women in Esports was also recognised for its efforts in prioritising diversity and inclusivity by GameHERs, having been nominated in the ‘Aspiring Ally Organisation‘.
