Sunderland City Hall to host second annual EDI event organised by British Esports on November 21st 2024.

Sunderland, Tuesday 4th June 2024 – British Esports, the national body for esports in the United Kingdom, has announced key details of the 2024 Be The Change: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Summit, Powered By Women in Esports.

This will take place in person at City Hall, Sunderland, on Thursday November 21st 2024 from 9.30am to 5pm, with guests and prospective speakers able to register their interest to attend here.

The main chamber has capacity for 300 people, with optional interactive workshops and breakout rooms also at the venue.

The new workshops are designed to be not just educational sessions; but dynamic, interactive experiences that can profoundly impact your team. Here’s how they make a difference:

  • Interactive Learning: Workshops provide a hands-on approach to learning about topical issues, encouraging active participation and deeper understanding.
  • Dialogue and Discussion: They create a safe space for open conversations, enabling employees to share their experiences and learn from one another.
  • Practical Application: These sessions offer practical tools and strategies that can be immediately applied to foster a more inclusive workplace environment.

This year’s event follows the inaugural Be The Change Summit, which was broadcast online last November, bringing together key stakeholders from the esports and games industries and beyond, including education, technology, sports and more, to discuss various equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) topics.

This year’s theme is ‘Educating’, following the success of last year’s ‘Empowering’ theme. The idea is to improve long-term improvement in underrepresentation through clear education that addresses diversity and inclusivity in esports.

Once again, the Summit aims to offer networking opportunities, and raise awareness about the significance of equity, diversity and inclusivity, with speakers sharing their experiences in a safe space that encourages open dialogue. Food and beverages will also be provided on the day.

Specific speakers are to be confirmed and announced at a later date.

The Summit is once again organised by Women in Esports, the equity, diversity and inclusivity initiative of national body British Esports. The announcement comes shortly after new members joined the Women in Esports Committee.

Billie Purdie, Project Development Lead at British Esports, commented: “Working in EDI can be tough, but it can also be incredibly rewarding when you see the real life impact our work at Women in Esports can have.

“If we can equip individuals with knowledge and opportunities so they can feel empowered to be their true, authentic selves, then I would argue we have done a pretty good job. That is exactly what the Be The Change Summit is all about.”

Megan Garner, FNATIC content creator and Charlotte Tilbury host, said of last year’s event: “This is a really special event, touching on important subjects and topics close to a lot of people’s hearts. It’s a great way to network and meet like minded people in the industry.”

Sue Lavasani, Account Manager at Tundra Esports and Women in Esports Committee Chair, added: “I am honoured and excited to speak at an event dedicated to equity, diversity, and inclusivity. For moments like these, I look forward to meeting incredibly talented people in the industry, alongside discussing the challenges and opportunities that exist for women in esports.”

Tickets for the 2024 Be The Change: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Summit, Powered by Women in Esports, start from £18 for students, to £42 for the general admission (early bird rate). Optional workshops will have an additional cost, while admission and hotel packages are also available.

Tickets will go on sale at a later date, with a separate announcement to follow.
