Esports legal Q&A: Get your questions answered by a Sheridans lawyer

Esports is a hot topic and a growing industry right now, but it’s still arguably in its infancy and faces many challenges.

Here at the British Esports Association we receive requests from people every day asking for advice, some of which is regarding esports careers, others involving contract disputes, legal queries, commercial advice and more.

While we’re happy to help, we’ll be the first to admit we are not lawyers and so cannot always answer your questions.

Thankfully, legal firm Sheridans has agreed to help answer your questions and find the answers you’re looking for.

Maybe you want to know what the law is surrounding a player contract, maybe you know someone who hasn’t been paid despite signing a contract, maybe you want to know how streaming deals or endorsement deals work, or you may have visa issues, for example.

Whatever it is, we’re happy to help. Send us your questions and problems, and Chris Paget from the market leading sports and esports firm Sheridans, will do his best to answer them.

Check out our previous interview with Chris on contract advice for teams, organisations and players here.

We’ll be publishing the questions and answers in separate articles on the British Esports Association website, which will hopefully help other people in the future who may have similar problems. Of course, we’re happy to replace your name and any other names mentioned to maintain anonymity.

If you have a question for Chris, email info@britishesports.org and we’ll do our best to answer your questions over the coming weeks and months.

*Answers given can only be a very brief commentary on the issues raised and should not be relied on as legal advice. No liability is accepted for such reliance. If you have similar issues, you should obtain advice from a solicitor and do feel free to contact Chris directly at cpaget@sheridans.co.uk
