UK student gaming festival King of the North is returning for the fifth consecutive year with a change in venue.

First run in 2014, King of the North is a not-for-profit community event organised by students of the University of Manchester Esports Society. It features a national esports tournament plus an interactive live event for the public.

This year, however, the University of Manchester Esports Society is partnering with the University of Salford to produce an event which will take place on March 17th and 18th 2018 at the University of Salford’s impressive MediaCity UK building.

The esports tournament is open to all UK university students and will feature League of Legends, Overwatch and Counter Strike: Global Offensive. The online qualifiers will be held on Saturday February 17th
and Saturday February 24th.

The top two teams from each qualifier will be invited to the live semi-finals, taking place March 17th and 18th.

King of the North will be host to a range of stalls and giveaways, as well as providing other activities that anyone is invited to take part in, including smaller tournaments in Super Smash Bros WiiU and Street Fighter V.

The live event’s major tournaments will also be livestreamed on the University of Manchester Esports Society’s Twitch channel.

Tickets are on sale now from the University of Manchester Esports Society website, for both audience members and teams who would like to participate in the tournaments. Tickets cost £3 each or ten for £10.

There’s more info over on the website.
